If I listed out everything that has happened in my life this year it would be a long list that would be of very little interest to anyone but myself. It has been a year of big changes. It’s one of those years where you look back and in many ways wish things had turned out differently. There were a lot of hopes and dreams quietly buried over the past months. Then again, that is how life works and no one gets through it without heartache and challenges.
I’m all about lessons. What lessons can you learn from your experiences? So instead of dwelling too deeply on difficulties experienced I will consider the lessons I’ve learned over the year.
Build and strengthen relationships.
Loneliness is prominent in this world of distractions. It can be very damaging to the mind and body. I’ve needed a lot of alone time this year but I couldn’t have made it through without my family and friends. Don’t be afraid to open up and share what you’re experiencing. Also, don’t be afraid to reach out. There are always excuses not to call that friend or grandparent. Just do it. You’ll both feel better once you do.
Allow change to happen.
When everything changes in ways you weren’t expecting it’s important to recognize how that moment can change you for the better. Even if it is a hard moment, you can change for the better. Perhaps it’s developing empathy, or courage, or patience, or maybe even simple acceptance that you are not in control.
Approach life with calmness.
I’m a worrier. My natural inclination is to worry. I don’t feel like that is a trait that I want to continue to carry for much longer so in the recent months I’ve started trying to move and think with calmness. Approaching challenges with a deep breath and calm attitude can change everything about how you cope with whatever lies around the corner. Those are my thoughts on 2016. I should mention that there were some pretty amazing things that happened in 2016 too. My dearest friends have allowed me to join in their celebrations of love, marriage, and babies! I got to travel Europe with my main squeeze! I got to spend long weeks with my amazing sister and brother-in-law! Time has passed and has allowed me to experience quite an array of what life has to offer.
I look forward to 2017 and the many challenges and opportunities it will bring. And seriously, maybe I could update this blog a bit more…. Unbelievable! I am terrible at this consistency thing.
Here’s to making 2017 a year full of positive change!
