A few weeks ago I flew to Florida for the weekend.
I had never been to Florida so when Zach suggested I join him after his conference it was hard to resist.
It was 6 degrees when I left my house. I had packed the chickens into their little shanty house (their coop covered on three sides with cardboard), pet the cats goodbye, and wrapped myself in a jacket - all the while knowing I’d be wearing a swimsuit and sunscreen in a few hours.
It was a surreal experience to spend a few hours on a plane and then be in a completely different climate. Flight travel is truly amazing.
The trip was lovely. Lots of good food. Warm sunny days with a couple cocktails here and there.
I thought I had done a spectacular job of packing my bag. I had an array of outfits that all coordinated into either casual or fancy. I had two pairs of shoes, my swimsuit, a handful of sunscreens and my sunglasses. I’m set, I had thought.
Let me tell you what I should have packed. A hat.
My scalp is still complaining about that mishap. Why didn’t I just buy one there, you ask? Would you be willing to drag yourself off the sand to go in search of a hat in some random store that you’d likely have to drive to? I didn’t think so.
I know hats are a pain to pack or travel with but on my next trip to a sunny location I will just deal with the inconvenience!
If you’re planning an escape from the cold winter months don’t forget the hat along with the bathing suit, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
At first it felt a bit extravagant to fly out to Florida for the weekend but I am glad I did. Yes, it was out of the ordinary but sometimes you just have to leap into a new adventure.
Try it some time. With the right perspective you won’t regret it.
