Alpha-H Anti Ageing Products - Review

Recently, I’ve been quite taken with high-quality skincare products. The market is flush with beautifully packaged skincare that proclaims the miracles you’ll experience if you drop a paycheck to try it.

Instead of paying a small fortune to see if the rumors are true I seek out the brands that offer small trial versions of their products.
The brand up for review today is...

Alpha-H

Alpha-H has a cult following in the modelling/beauty industry. Its Liquid Gold product is revered as though it were truly liquified gold. The Alpha-H product range is vast. It covers everything from teen skin to pigmentation and rosacea to premature aging.

Price is always a hard thing to discuss because everyone has a different perspective on what skincare should cost. Alpha-H is certainly not the most expensive brand out there but if you’re used to purchasing Cetaphil from Target the price tag on these products may cause you to gasp.

However, there is a way to try it out first. Beauty Bay and Beauty Expert have trial size options of a few of the products. These are not just little sachets with a drop of the product, these are full on travel size. Absolutely worth a go!

I purchased* the Alpha-H Beauty Bay Anti-Ageing Discovery Collection. Here are my thoughts on the products.

Balancing Cleanser with Aloe Vera
- This is a very gentle, lightly scented cream cleanser. Some cream cleansers have left my skin dry and slightly irritated but the Balancing Cleanser never once caused any irritation. If you have extremely sensitive skin and you’re looking for a cleanser you can use morning and night without it causing your skin any grief this would be a great one to check out. As far as a makeup remover it did fairly well except with my Pacifica mascara. The mascara is not quite waterproof but it definitely has a firm hold and this cleanser could do nothing to make it budge.

Micro Cleanse
- A rice bran exfoliant that works a bit of magic. I loved this! I used the micro cleanse every third day. The results were smooth skin with minimised pore appearance. The rice bran wasn’t harsh on my skin. I never felt as though the little rice bran grains were tearing or scratching. This also has glycolic acid, a chemical exfoliant, that adds an extra punch to the product. If you need something to help brighten and even out your skin tone and texture this is a great option. If you have super sensitive skin I would say focus this product on your problematic areas and just do a few circular swipes across the rest of your skin.

Essential Hydration Cream
- I used this as a night cream on the off days from the Liquid Gold. It is touted as an aromatic soothing cream and it is soothing but the aroma is not pleasant. At least for me. Scent is a hard thing to critique as we all have very different sensitivities. For me, it smelled like a chemical fragrance that was injected so it could be considered an aromatic cream. Aside from the smell it did do well as a night time moisturiser. Because it is called a cream I thought it would be a cream, like the cleanser, but it is actually more like an opaque gel. A little went a long way if I used it right after cleansing my face. Due to the texture being more of a gel than a cream it had a matte finish so there is no leftover greasy feeling. This would be great as a base to your makeup routine if your foundation has an SPF.

Daily Essential Moisturiser
- This is truly essential when using the products that contain glycolic acid. Chemical exfoliants increase your skin’s sensitivity to sunlight so an SPF is absolutely a requirement. The Daily Essential Moisturiser is a great companion product to the Micro Cleanse and Liquid Gold. It is lightweight, soaks in with no residue, and the SPF does what it is supposed to do.

Liquid Gold
- This is considered their miracle product. Some reviews I read stated that results were noticeable within 3 days. I didn’t experience a change in my skin that quickly but I did see a difference after a week. My skin has a tendency to become dull and patchy due to my love of the sun and too many years of no sunscreen. After two weeks of applying the Liquid Gold after using the Balancing Cleanser I saw quite a difference in the appearance of my skin. It was brighter, smoother, and more even toned. I found that the Liquid Gold was helpful in clearing up blemishes too.

The Verdict

These are clearly high quality products. The price seems worth it for the Liquid Gold and Micro Cleanse. I would even say the Daily Essential Moisturiser is worth the money. I was not blown away by the Balancing Cleanser or Essential Hydration Cream. They did what the product description suggested but there was nothing that really grabbed my attention about their effectiveness. They work but aren’t mind blowing. If I’m paying a pretty penny I want to be blown away.

The big bottle purchase will likely be the Liquid Gold. It really is a powerful product. A little goes a long way and the results are pretty significant when the product is used consistently. If you are looking for a product that will improve the texture of your skin, making it brighter and smoother, this is definitely worth a try.

I can’t imagine what questions you may have after this incredibly lengthy review but if  you have any please leave a comment below! I hope you found this helpful and informative!

Disclaimer:
A word on beauty products. I typically lean towards products that use natural ingredients. I also try to buy only cruelty free products. That being said this brand does not fall under the natural ingredients category. I have yet to determine if their ingredients are tested on animals. I understand their final products are not. In general I think it is important to consider what your goal is with skincare. Do your research and understand the impact your favorite brands have on your health, the lives of lab animals, and the environment. Is it possible to find a product that is in line with your ethics and produces results? I believe so. It may take a little effort to find that product but it is worth your time to do the research and put your money towards a brand you trust and are willing to support.

*As you can see, though I will clarify, this is not a sponsored post. All opinions are my own. The product was not sent to me for review though I do welcome companies sending me stuff to review! Chocolate, wine, make-up, and skincare is preferred but I’m quite open to other items.

This is a great review of this product line. I was surprised by how gently it treated my skin yet still worked. Anti-aging products can sometimes leave my sensitive skin feeling older than before but not this one.

I did have a similar issue with the cleanser--it was a great cleanser but not so great at removing my Benefit They're Real mascara. It just sort of smeared it around. And I completely agree with your assessment of the smell of the Essential Hydration Cream--it was just too perfumey. (That being said, I didn't have any skin reaction to the fragrance; the product left my skin feeling nice and soft).

One question about the Liquid Gold: It's really liquid! How do you apply it?

Thanks for the comment! For the Liquid Gold, I put a little bit on half of a cotton ball and wipe it across my face and neck. I usually just leave it as is. If your skin feels too tight after using the Liquid Gold you can follow it with a moisturiser. I believe it is more effective if you don't add something on top of it.
