Recently, life has been hard.
I have several great ideas about how to build my business, help create the life I desire but sometimes I feel like the goals I’ve been setting for myself slip away without even coming close to being achieved.
We’ve all been there. A tidal wave of stressful events takes hold and your mind loses track of everything you want to be doing.
When you find yourself in this situation it’s important not to become discouraged or maybe decide those goals, dreams weren’t that important after all.
Instead, this is a perfect time to go back over the goals you’ve set for yourself and see how they are shaping up, if they need a little finessing.
The key to accomplishing the goals you set is to create action steps and follow through. In my case, I have three goals I need to check in on.
My first goal was that I’d like to spend more time with my roommate, aka my husband.
We’ve both had various personal projects in the works for the last couple months and it has been pretty great to just sit in the same room as we read, write, and brainstorm on our own. We’ve cooked dinner together, planned our garden (and greenhouse), danced in our living room. Ending the day with collaboration and silliness is the absolute best!
I’m eager to continue finding new ways to spend time together other than just sitting watching Netflix. Not that that is all bad--we did just watch the final episode of Sherlock Season 3. Amazing. You could say I’m a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch--yeah, you could.
My next goal was to do less of things like staring with glazed eyes at facebook, watching so much TV, connecting to Instagram when I get that bored/lonely feeling.
I can say I did quite well with this for the first few weeks but recently the bad habits have crept back in as my stress levels have increased. Unfortunately, these mindless habits have become a release that I jump to without thinking.
But while I may have had a few off weeks, I’m going to jump back into my goal.
One of my original action steps was to turn on music instead of Netflix. (Does anyone have any favorite Pandora stations?)
A new action step is going to be to do a yoga routine, ballet, or HIIT instead of watching a 20 minute tv episode on Netflix. (Oh, Netflix. You are so fun but such a bad addiction for procrastinators.)
Finally, one of my goals that I have not mentioned on the blog before is the development of my Health Counseling business. In some ways, this is a terrifying goal and I have to say I have been allowing that fear to stop me from doing anything about ‘growing’ this business. I do need an action step though!
In order to really build a business that will provide help, support, and guidance to those who want it I need to take new steps to spread the word about what I do and how that can help. I’m going to continue with my newsletter; I’m currently creating a multi-level cleanse for summer, and I’m updating this blog! On some days I wonder if that’s enough but then I get home from work and notice just how tired I am and wonder - how am I going to do all of this?
By taking action. That is how.
Did you set goals for yourself this year? How are you doing with your action steps?
