As a little girl it is thrilling to watch the remarkable story of a young woman who has all her dreams come true. Even though I’m all grown up I still watch Disney princess movies with a sense of awe. They’re just so enchanting! I know that “happily ever after” stories aren’t reality; real life takes some work! However, now I glean a very different perspective from these ladies. Each Disney Princess has her own tips and tricks to teach us. Read Part 1 - Snow White.
Shoe! Lost shoe! Shoes! Cinderella absolutely, without question, has the best shoes in the world of Disney. Glass shoes!? I mean….there’s no beating that or the hovering sparkle and glint that comes with them. Thankfully, Cinderella has a Fairy Godmother that made sure those shoes fit her perfectly. She knows what would happen to the future Queen’s feet if she danced until midnight in shoes that were too big or too small. Disaster!
Only buy shoes that fit properly. I once bought a pair of heels a ½ size too small. I couldn’t resist, they were amazing! Sadly, I paid dearly in physical pain and eventually had to give them away. It was not worth it. The shoes were great. The purple toes peeking out were hideous. Feet should be cared for, they carry you through life on your many adventures, don’t treat them poorly.
All I hear is Cinderella, from the moment I get up
till shades of night are falling
There isn't any letup, I hear them calling, calling
Go up and do the attic and go down and do the cellar, you can do them
How lovely it would be
if I could live in my fantasy
But in the middle of my dreaming
-The Work Song
Poor Cinderella. She’s a victim of jealousy and envy. Though I love the visual beauty of Cinderella and her story I have always wanted her to have more spunk, the courage to do more than wait for her dreams to come true. However, that would have lead to a completely different story. Cinderella could not have taken matters into her own hands, even if that’s what I always wanted her to do. Instead, she exhibits a virtue that few of us have or even attempt to have - patience.
Aside from the song above she endures the cruelty of her step-family with pretty impressive patience. How many of us would react to her situation with the same long-suffering poise? Very few I would imagine.
Be patient. Do not immediately lash out or react when you find yourself in an undesirable situation. Instead, breath, sing a song to the mice that have infested your house, and respond with gentleness.
That being said, don’t forget to dream.
“A dream is a wish your heart makes
When you are fast asleep
In dreams you lose your heartaches
Whatever you wish for, you keep
Have faith in your dreams and someday
Your rainbow will come smiling thru
No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
the dream that you wish will come true”
- A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes
Allow yourself to dream. What does your heart wish for? How can you make that a reality? Don’t let the days disappear. Dream and then reach for those dreams.
Not sure how to do that? Send me an email. No really, I’m a coach I can get you where you want to be. End of my self-promotion (for now).
If a mistreated servant girl can pull off going to a ball in a dress made by birds and mice you can certainly go to the ball in some of your own revamped items. We all have plenty of clothes. Sometimes I wonder why I ever bought what is currently in my closet but nevertheless I have plenty of clothes!
Revamp your wardrobe. When boredom sets in and you feel like you have nothing to wear try switching things up. Always wear pants? Wear that skirt you bought two years ago. Put a casual t-shirt on with a pencil skirt and flats. Experiment and rock your new style!
Thanks, Cinderella! So many valuable lessons for us to use in our lives!
Which lesson hit home with you?
P.S if you do have mice in your house don't forget the peppermint oil on cotton balls trick!
