I love developing new habits that are fun and beneficial to my physical or mental health. A couple of years ago I discovered the technique of dry body brushing. It is one of those activities that feels like a luxury but has many added health benefits.
If you are looking for a way to improve the texture and appearance of your skin as well as improving the health of your skin, this is definitely something you should try.
Reasons to give it a try:
Improved appearance - Dry body brushing exfoliates your skin by removing dead skin cells and supports cell renewal. You’ll notice a more even skin texture, a smoother appearance and feel, and a bit of a glow as your skin is no longer veiled by dead skin cells. You may even notice the reduced appearance of cellulite due to the increase of blood flow to areas of the body where fat cells and toxins have settled in.
Detox your lymphatic system - The technique of dry body brushing increases blood flow and supports proper drainage of your lymph nodes. The lymphatic system plays a key role in our immune health. It’s important to keep lymph nodes clear, otherwise health issues can arise. Dry body brushing stimulates the flow of the lymphatic system so everything continues to flow and work properly.
Increased circulation: As I mentioned above, this brushing method increases blood circulation, which is very beneficial! Better circulation means your blood is moving through your organs ensuring organs function properly - by the way, your skin is the biggest organ of all. Stimulating your skin will help it to breath and do it’s job in filtering the substances that come in and out of the body. The health of your body relies greatly on how your skin absorbs nutrients and eliminates toxins.
Is that enough to convince you? I hope so!
There are many tutorials out there about dry body brushing but I’ll give you my technique and then you can determine what works for you! It can take as little as 3 minutes but you can also take your time to enjoy it and relax.
Before you hop in the shower:
Use a natural bristle paddle brush that you can easily hold in your hand.
Make sure to take long sweeping strokes towards your heart. Brushing towards the heart mimics the natural flow of the lymphatic system. To brush against the flow would be counterintuitive as the point of this routine is to aid the body in detoxification.
Once you’ve showered pat your skin dry and lotion up.
Dry body brushing is a wonderful tool to bring into your beauty regime. The technique is great for everyone but it is especially helpful for a few specific health issues, including:
Trouble with cystic breast tissue
Temporarily swollen lymph nodes due to illness
Will you consider using this beauty technique to support your health and as a fun and relaxing self-care habit? Let me know if you give it a try and what you think of it.
